Genetics, Hybridization, and Conservation of Several Sarracenia species Endemic to the Southeastern United States

Megan Keyser is a master’s graduate student in Botany at Miami University, Ohio, with a focus on plant conservation. She is expected to receive her M.S. degree in August 2026.
Her thesis research examines the impact of hybridization on the petitioned subspecies Sarracenia rubra subspecies wherryi. Her project, titled The Impact of Hybridization on the Taxonomic Classification and Conservation of a Petitioned Pitcher Plant, Sarracenia rubra ssp. wherryi, integrates conservation genetics and population genetics to evaluate taxonomic boundaries and conservation implications.
Her research experience includes DNA extraction, genetic data analysis, basic statistical analyses, and the application of molecular tools to conservation questions.
Lecture will be given by: Dr. Vivian Negron-Ortiz, Ms. Megan Keyser, Dr. Richard Moore
